About this Event
To provide Doula, cohorts Advanced Doula Skills, in prenatal, childbirth, and postpartum support. Included are the areas of high risk, advanced, maternal age, preeclampsia, gestational, diabetes, plus size pregnancies, maternal mental health, VBAC’s Caesarean section births, and inductions. To provide breastfeeding basics to support newborns in golden hour and first latch.
Mentoring in a virtual peer-to peer model for birth doulas to process their supports, share empowering stories/encounters as well, as share challenges encountered in doula practices, and to stay abreast of community resources supporting the practice of holistic labor support in the above identified scenarios.
To provide a collaboration of advanced maternal health supports indigenous to the community who are certified, trained, insured maternal support professionals whom do not possess bias or judgment of race, economic distinction, physical or sexual orientation of any pregnant person in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
Project Description:
Provide Education/training per cohort Virtually on the following topics:
• VBACS
• Cesarean Section Doula Support.
• Navigating Hospital Culture as a BIPOC Birth Doula.
Meet the Trainer!
Denise Bolds is Bold Doula, she holds a MSW degree and is experienced in case managing high-risk pregnancies. Ms. Bolds was one of the first MSW Social Workers hired in NYS for Medical Management in Health Management Organizations. She is a DONA International Advanced Certified Birth Doula with 2 births of experience since 2014. She is certified as an Evidence Based Birth® Childbirth Instructor. Ms. Bolds is also a Certified Lactation Counselor providing breastfeeding support and breastfeeding classes. She mentors birth doulas; and is known for her advocacy and empowerment in Black birth-work. Ms. Bolds is the owner and facilitator of the new training Organization: Black Women Do VBAC. Ms. Bolds is a noted public speaker and podcast producer and she is MWBE certified in NYS/NYC. She is a native New Yorker born in Harlem and is successful single mom of a 32 year-old son. She loves skydiving, algebra, collecting stones and beaches. Ms. Bolds is currently a Doctoral Student at Saint John Fischer University with expected graduation 2025.
