What better way to understand the daily life of an 1800s family than to experience it for yourself? Local craftspeople will demonstrate 19th century skills such as blacksmithing, butter churning, quilting, weaving, blow guns and more. The Vann Mansion, Cherokee Farmstead, newly restored Vann Kitchen Exhibit, and museum will be open for self-guided tours.
$5.50 - $6.50 Pay at the door.
Saturday events will be held 10a.m.-4p.m.
Sunday events will be held 1p.m.-4p.m.

Activities at the Museum
Say hey to the Friends of the Vann House volunteers and renew your annual membership. Watch our 15 minute film, “Walking in Two Worlds.” Visit with our Vann House Quilters, try quilting for yourself.
Inside the Historic Vann House
Tour the house from root-cellar to attic, hosted by Friends of the Vann House volunteers.
Guest Room: Old-fashioned Handkerchief Dolls.
Parlor: Beading.
South Lawn
See the tools used for Stickball, longbow and blowgun hunting.
Chair canning and woodworking.

Inside the Two Story Cabin
Downstairs: Butter Churning with Friends of the Vann House volunteers.
Upstairs: see Friends volunteers demonstrate weaving on an 1800s loom and spinning cotton on a great wheel.
At the Cherokee Farmstead
Sugar Creek Cabin: Leather Britches: see an old Appalachian method of food preservation, try it for yourself.
Coahulla Creek Cabin: Corn Grinding, see methods of drying and grinding this native plant.
Three Sisters Garden: Visit with Master Gardeners from the Chattooga Garden Club to learn about sustainable farming practices and medicinal herbs in our gardens.
Basket making: Visit Andrew Lee of The Primitive Arts while he hand crafts bark baskets.
East Lawn
Vann’s Corn Crib: Blacksmithing, visit local smith Rodney Deal for demonstrations on the forge.
Black Powder demonstration: by the 1800s, most Cherokee were well versed with fire-arms. To demonstrate this technology, we’ll be firing a black-powder rifle a few times an hour.

Visit the God’s Acre Cemetery from the Moravian Mission at Spring Place, location of the first Christian mission on Cherokee land. Ask front desk for directions.
