About this Event
2022 has been designated by the United Nations as the International Year of Glass. This year marks 350 years since the first practical developments of ‘flint glass’ for which England and Ireland were soon to become famous and 125 years since the publication of Albert Harshorne’s Old English Glasses, the first serious study of the history of English and Irish glass. To celebrate, the V&A is presenting this conference in partnership with the Association for the History of Glass (AHG). This study day aims to explore the evolving story of the birth of these sophisticated products, a century before the ‘industrial revolution’ is normally considered to have begun.
