About this Event
Expressive arts therapist Yagmur Aksu warmly invites you to join an international women’s expressive arts group that meets every other Friday.
In this space, we aim to create a safe, accepting environment where everyone can express themselves authentically. Together, we’ll celebrate and honor each other's stories and experiences.
This group is primarily aimed at international immigrant female identified people, but we welcome all women to join. Being an immigrant or expat in a foreign country can be a deeply isolating and challenging experience. Hopefully, this space could aid you in tackling the difficulties, finding connections, or simply experiencing joy.
The gatherings take place from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM in Mount Pleasant. Each session will feature a diverse range of creative activities, including collaging, clay work, photography, movement, sound, writing, and oil pastels. We’ll explore and engage our senses, enjoy the creative process, play, and support each other’s artistic journeys. Offerings may be adjusted based on participants' needs and interests. A sharing circle will be available during the session, but sharing is entirely voluntary.
No prior experience in art is required—none of the activities demand advanced skills. Through art making, one might explore non verbal language of creativity and communicate inner feelings that were not previously available to them by simply thinking or talking. Participating in art making and play within a community can be a profoundly healing experience.
Whether you’re eager to dip your toes into art-making, seeking companionship and connection, or simply looking for a playful space, this group might be perfect for you.
This event operates on a donation basis.
What is Expressive Arts Therapy (EXA)?
Expressive Arts Therapy (EXA) is an intermodal and creative approach to therapy that integrates various artistic forms to support mental and emotional well-being. By engaging in activities such as visual arts, music, drama, dance/movement, poetry, creative writing and play, EXA provides a pathway for self-discovery, emotional expression, and community building.
Participating in expressive arts therapy can help individuals:
- Feel revitalized, joyful, and relaxed
- Unlock the healing potential of their creativity and imagination
- Develop new tools for managing and releasing challenging emotions
- Alter habitual thought patterns and behaviors
- Gain new perspectives on complex issues and find innovative solutions
- Connect with their inner resilience and strength
