About this Event

We have an awesome cast for this month's VGDS! With legendary composer DannyB of Super Meat Boy, The Binding of Isaac, and Crypt/Rift of the NecroDancer, and Ari Martinez, senior writer and narrative designer on Ghost of Yotei, this will be a fantastically insightful night!

Hope to see you at VFS on June 12th - First talk starts at 6pm.

Danny Baranowsky is a composer for games like Super Meat Boy, The Binding of Isaac, Crypt/Rift of the NecroDancer and Cadence of Hyrule. He is also a drummer and plays his tracks live in his band dannyBstyle. His love for writing music that ties the mechanics of games to rhythm and harmony is surpassed only by his love for Daisy, his cat, and Star Trek: The Next Generation.

Ariadna 'Ari' Martinez is an Argentinian senior writer and narrative designer currently typing away amongst the majestic mountains of Vancouver, British Columbia. With prior experience in film, she's forged an eight-year career in the games industry from small startups to AAA studios such as Capcom (Dead Rising); Guerrilla (Horizon Forbidden West); and her current home, Sucker Punch Productions (Ghost of Yõtei). In her spare time, she teaches Game Writing at Vancouver Film School hoping to pass on her passion and knowledge of narrative design to the next generation of writers.

ItsTheTalia is a Canadian independent game developer, artist behind Brutal Orchestra, Perfect Vermin, Crawling Angels and myriad other bewildering experiences.

Blending the morbid and the beautiful, the stiflingly hilarious and the unspeakably macabre, Talia builds worlds that plunge players into the absurdity of being human.

Whether wandering the pink dunes of Purgatory, beneath the buzzing lights of a nightmarish office, through midnight carnivals beyond the veil, or into the sweaty, bloated depths of caverns unknown, players are invited to explore the strange and unsettling landscapes that define her work. Her influences range from the paintings of Hieronymus Bosch, Francis Bacon, and H.R. Giger to the films of David Lynch and David Cronenberg, as well as the anatomy of parasitic dogs and gentle manatees drifting listlessly through seas of green.

When she's not developing games, she's probably collecting obscure animal facts, sketching strange creatures, or searching for new ways to make players laugh, squirm, and wonder what exactly they're looking at.

Event Info: Volunteers will check you in at the building entrance. Pizza will be provided at the event, but please let us know if you have any dietary restrictions when buying your ticket.

NOTE: The event will be at Vancouver Film School's campus at 151 W Cordova Street (Theatre 106)
