Kirtan is the practice of using music and repetitive call-and-response singing of various names of the Divine to remind ourselves of our Divine identity and birthright.
Here's a recent testimonial:
“I’ve been attending Vancouver Community Kirtan for around three years now. At times, I’ve retreated to hold my spirituality more privately, but I always find myself returning.
Harreson and his team have gracefully created the most inclusive and holistic Bhakti experience in the city. The mantras honour various deities, draw on different lineages, and even invite us to chant in multiple languages.
It’s a truly encompassing offering, and I wholeheartedly recommend it from the bottom of my heart.”

Participants might experience benefits such as: calm and relaxation of the nervous system, upliftment of mood, energized spirit, and increased connection with the sacred.
Chants can be in Sanskrit (mainly), or from the Buddhist (Pali), Christian (English/Greek), Jewish (Hebrew), Sufi (Arabic) or Western (English) traditions.
All curious folks and those seeking a peaceful oasis are welcome to join us.
Musical instruments include the harmonium, tablas, drums, guitar, Stick, shakers and kartals.
Cushions for sitting on the floor are available.
Optional potluck follows the kirtan. Come and meet new friends and build a new tribe.
Tickets available at the door. $15 cash or card.
2nd floor - 2940 Main Street (14th Ave entrance), Vancouver.
Parents:
Kirtan is a spiritual practice best done with a bit of silence and in an atmosphere of non-distraction. There is no separate refuge room. If you think that your children younger than 12 years can stay quiet and sing along with everyone and not run around for two hours, then feel free to bring them.
Facilitator's bio:
Since 2016, Vancouver Community Kirtan has been offering a space for multi-faith non-sectarian kirtan. You can expect the majority of chants to be in the Sanskrit language and songsheets are provided. On other occasions, there may be chants in the Buddhist, or Christian, or Jewish, or Islamic traditions.
Vancouver Community Kirtan supports needy children in India and the growth of wholesome powerful mantras to calm, focus and uplift the mind and spirit.
