Van Trip to Jasper-Pulaski Park and Sandhill Cranes

Feminist Bird Club is organizing a trip to Jasper Pulaski Fish & Wildlife area in NW Indiana to see the Sandhill Crane migration. There are limited seats available in a van, or we highly encourage self-driving and meeting the group there.

The bus will leave 1:30 PM CT SHARP from the parking lot of the South Loop Jewel Osco. The meet-up location is near the Roosevelt CTA station at Roosevelt and Wabash, as well as bus stops for the #29 and #62 bus routes.

The drive is approximately 2 hours each direction. We are expecting to arrive at 4.30 PM ET / 3.30 PM CT, to get there 1 hour before sunset at 5.30 PM ET. We'll stay for 1.5-2 hours and plan to arrive back at the South Loop Jewel Osco around 7.30 PM CT.

Van space is limited, and you are welcome to drive yourself and meet FBC there. The address for Jasper Pulaski is 5822 Fish and Wildlife Ln, Medaryville, IN 47957.

Jasper Pulaski has a viewing platform located near the parking lot, with an accessible pathway. There are port-a-potties at the viewing platform, and there may be some nearby at the area headquarters.

The will be a MASKED bird sit for both the van trip and the outdoor bird sit. With the current surge in COVID-19 and the understanding that it can be spread and contracted outdoors, we are kindly asking our community to bring a respirator (N95, KN95, KF94 or equivalent) to our walks. We will have respirators on hand at the event if you need one.

Dress for the weather, we recommend layers and lots of warm clothing, and your own water and snacks and any other supplies you may need to stay comfortable throughout this outing. This area can get very windy, please dress appropriately. Feel free to bring a warm thermos beverage.

Binoculars available to borrow.
