A conversational journey with Alice Jurow and Therese Poletti.
About this Event

Join beloved local authors Alice Jurow and Therese Poletti at Clio's to celebrate Alice's latest novel, Vagabond Vamps, an urban fantasy that plays with the trope of the alluring vamp while following two fashion-conscious, jazz-mad, "ethical" vampire characters through early 20th century history. Alice and Therese will be sharing thoughts on travel, fashion, and culture while exploring the early 20th century's fascination with vamps and vampires, the glamour of travel in the 1930s, how the international characteristics of Art Deco style spread across the world, and how immortality might affect one’s choices in fashion and lifestyle.

They will doubtless be dressed in inimitable style; attendees are invited to do the same. A signed copy of Alice's book will be awarded to the guest whom they judge embodies 1930's fashion most completely.

Alice Jurow has degrees in Architecture and Aesthetic Studies and has had a long involvement with the Art Deco Society of California. She often writes and lectures on the fashion, architecture and art of the 1920s and 30s. She has published two novels,Vamps of ‘29 andVagabond Vamps, and she is working on a third. She lives in Berkeley with her human and feline family.

Therese Poletti has been a journalist for over 30 years and is the author ofArt Deco San Francisco: The Architecture of Timothy Pflueger, published by Princeton Architectural Press. She has also written articles about San Francisco architecture for publications ranging from The Wall Street Journal to The Argonaut, a journal for the San Francisco Historical Society. She loves vintage clothing and fashion, especially that of the Art Deco period from the 1920s to the 1940s.
