About this Event
On Valentine’s Day itself, this real Speed Dating event will be like no other you have attended. Hosted by an over-the-top character GLORIA — “world famous in parts of East Vancouver” —you will find this event both entertaining AND useful. Gloria may be over-the-hill but she is running down the other side! A showgirl in her prime, she doles out the relationship advice to anyone who doesn’t ask. It is basically stand up comedy, mixed with Saturday Night Live, mixed with actual Speed Dating. You might just meet the love of your life….And if you don’t, you’ll have had a great time regardless.
This event is the first of many that will occur, and each version of this event will be for a different demographic of romance-seekers. By draw out of a hat, it was determined that this event on February 14th is for Female-identifying seeking Male-identifying people and vice versa!! Please when you purchase your ticket, make sure to make note of which category you are in.
Participation is limited to a maximum of 58 participants. Doors open at 530 pm and speed dating will begin at 545 pm. Discussion topics will be wide and varied, and fun will be had. Contact between parties that are both interested will be given within two hours after the event.
All participants are welcome to stay for the live band speakeasy dance that occurs at the Dusty Flowerpot Cabaret every Tuesday night. This bonus represents a savings of $15 that one would usually pay at the door for the Swing Out event. A free swing dance lesson occurs at 715 pm as part of the weekly ‘Swing Out’ which has a live band playing until 10 pm each Tuesday.
Note: If you would like to avoid fees, you can pay in person at the door to any Swing Out event at the Dusty Flowerpot Cabaret, each Tuesday from 7-10 pm, or you can e-transfer to [email protected]
About your host: The woman behind the mask is Kat Single-Dain, Artistic Director of The Dusty Flowerpot Cabaret Society, called “one of Vancouver’s best kept secrets” by the CBC, and the powerhouse behind countless events in and out of Vancouver, including the annual Parade of Lost Souls, and the upcoming interactive musical “Disco Inferno”. Colin Thomas in the Georgia Straight has said “When the dancers launch into director Kat Single-Dain’s energetic, swing-inspired choreography, you can feel the sap starting to run in the trees.” Kat has performed as the blunt diva Gloria for up to a thousand people at a time in countless venues from East Vancouver to Sweden!
