Vail Lake Resort, located in Temecula’s beautiful wine country, is situated on 385 acres along the largest private lake in California. The terrain will include hill climbs, sandy washes and dirt fire roads. The trails will include the opportunity to enjoy the breathtaking scenery of Vail Lake. The resort is located about 9 miles east of Highway 15 in Temecula on Highway 79 South. The average maximum temperature here in mid-May is mid 70’s during the day and might dip into the mid 50’s at night.If you are new to Competitive Trail Riding, we invite you to come and ride. Don’t let the idea of “Competition” keep you away either. Saturday morning will consist of a clinic, learning about competitive trail riding and practicing how to use GPS for navigation down the trails. A Leisure Division ride will be held the same day after a break for lunch. Enter just the Clinic, just the Leisure ride, or enter both and get a discount on the Leisure ride entry.
A Competitive Trail Ride is NOT A RACE. It is a timed and measured distance-riding event. Horses of all breeds, including
mules, are invited to compete in NATRC. You will follow marked horse trails using GPS and a printed map with specified
minimum and maximum riding times. You and your horse will be observed over the course of the ride by an experienced
Leisure Division (LeD) judge. You will be judged on the way you handle and care for your horse and how you negotiate
trail conditions such as steep ascents and descents, and natural trail obstacles. Your horse will be judged on condition and
capability to continue. It is strongly recommended that horses be shod due to the nature of the terrain. Any type of boot is allowed.
