This Sunday's U.U. program will be led by Associate Speaker Robin Proud. Robin's program title is "Elizabeth Cady Stanton and the Women's Bible” Stanton was a religious Freethinker who published clear-eyed, detailed commentaries on both the Old and New Testaments, criticizing the very limited roles these religious texts assigned to women. In this program, Associate Speaker Robin Proud will share stories of the life led by this capable and determined woman. Robin will be joined during her presentation by the member Ellen Paul, who will share excerpts from Stanton’s speech at the first women’s rights convention in Seneca Falls, NY in July of 1848. It took 70+ years from that opening declaration for women to get the vote throughout the USA. Come learn about the tenacity of this early leader in the movement that finally won women the right to vote.
At the end of the program, the Free Congregation of Sauk City will honor Elizabeth Cady Stanton by hanging a lovely portrait of her on the storied walls of Park Hall. Come be inspired by a person who fought long and hard to win for women the right to have a say in their government.
Join us for this thought promoting program, which will begin with a story for all ages. Free childcare is available every Sunday. Kimberly Fisher will provide music. As always, open discussion will follow.
All or our programs are available in person and on zoom via out website
