Utterly Fuzzled #13: lucky for some?! Utterly Fuzzled brings you the following acts for our 13th event, anyway:
OORT CLOD are from Manchester. The band's debut album Cult Value blends fractured pop sensibilities with pure punk spirit, twisting their 80s/90s alternative and 60s garage rock influences into bold new shapes. The organ brings ? and the Mysterians to mind, but there are hints that Oort Clod may have read about Seymour and so forth; bit of the Pastels here and maybe Go-Betweens there, they have all the right reference points and Utterly Fuzzled are delighted to welcome them to the Fulfordgate Club in York.
BITCHCRAFT are York's all female, all teen sensations (well, they've moved to London it seems but we're still claiming 'em for this locality!). Reports of 'Sabbathesque riffery and hints of folk horror married to gnarly grunge stylings' are about right; but their cover of Bikini K*ll's 'Rebel Girl' perhaps gives a stronger clue regarding their influences. What is certain is that Bitchcraft rock hard and appear to have a bright future - well deserved!
CHAFFINCH are becoming regulars at Utterly Fuzzled gigs, semi-improvised heaviness with a bit of light coming through the window nonetheless: a mix of unrelenting riffs and delicate picking while the arms trade is critiqued in semi-sweet vocalisations, oh, and 'le batteur' will batter them drums so bring yr earplugs. York-based.
LLAMA MOLLO are also based in York, teenage buskers with a rock'n'fuzz side to their thing, they have a song called 'Mr Blooshoos' and we suspect that they are blue suede shoos too: that's right, Laurence Marshall is the new Elvis, you heard it here first.
Fulfordgate Social Club offers a friendly and welcoming environment. The gig room has two toilet cubicles which can be used by anyone who needs them. We request that anyone who feels able to do so uses the men's toilets which are accessible by going through the bar.
