This Watershed Investigations course is a partnership with Swaner Preserve and EcoCenter. Class times are 9 AM - 5 PM starting Thursday, July 13th and ending Saturday , July 15th. Class will be based at the Swaner Preserve with day trips to the Upper Provo River in the Uinta Mountains, and down to Great Salt Lake.You will be given access to the Watershed Investigations online course 6 weeks before the start of the field course - you will be required to complete this course before attending the field course.
This is an adult education program that is open to participants 18 years of age or older. Exceptions for teens as young at 15 may be made if a parent/guardian is also registered for the course. Please email [email protected] if you want to register a child as young as 15.
Course Description:
From high alpine lakes and streams to the Great Salt Lake and unique temporary wetlands of the arid desert, Utah has a vast diversity of aquatic ecosystems that interact with each other throughout, and across, watersheds. Come join us while we explore these ecosystems and learn about how they function, the plants and animals that live there, and how they are managed.
Each Utah Master Naturalist course consists of 40 hours of instruction, with approximately 16 hours covered in the online course, and the remaining 24 hours spent outdoors in a field course. Field course activities will include instructor-led discussions, guest presentations, small group activities, and open discussions. Class size is small in order to maximize your opportunities for learning and having fun!
Due to the nature of the Watershed Investigations class, we will be walking and hiking over some uneven terrain and often in rocky, wet environments. While we do our best to accommodate people of all abilities, please contact [email protected] if you have any concerns.
