Best in Show: The theme for USA vs. Pakistan is Silk Road! [Pakistan, in the cradle of polo for thousands of years, is situated at the top of the world, surrounded by 3 of the world's highest mountain ranges, where the legendary 'Silk Road' trade route created an East meets West culture enriched with silks & spices, philosophies, technology and knowledge, welcoming passers through to discover the beauty of this unique corner of the world, boasting the highest altitude polo field in Gilgimut where an ancient epitath stands inscribed with "Let others play at other things. The King of Games is still the Game of Kings." which sums up the ancient history of what is believed to be the oldest organized sport in the world. Polo was truly a game of Kings, for most of its reputed 2,500 years or more of existence.] The most spirited Newport Polo fans who best capture the contest theme will be rewarded with prizes in the Best in Show Contest (see 2023 Entries & Winners Album). Judges will scout the entire venue to find the best bacchanal, including picnic decor, banquets, tablescapes & attire, awarding a coveted prize from Stella Artois, plus a tote filled with signature swag from Pix at Polo, and of course your Brenton Hotel Jumbotron moment of fame. This tradition is a tribute to our fans that continue to show their spirit and love of polo, earning Best Tailgating in New England from Yankee Magazine and making the Newport Polo experience par excellence. Our resident style photographer will capture souvenir Pix at Polo, available from Cocoa & Co.

“Our sponsors have been with us since the beginning. Without their support, the Series would not be as extensive as it is,” explains Dan Keating, Polo Series founder.
The weekly polo matches every Saturday are an ideal conclusion to a summer’s day, in the late afternoons of June through September, just minutes from countless other events, attractions, and glittering beaches of Newport, in a manicured, timelessly picturesque setting of the International Polo Grounds at Glen Farm in Portsmouth, where weekly audiences of several thousand attendees have turned out for generations to cheer on the home team as well as the visiting challengers. This bucolic setting is the last 100 acres of what was once a 700-acre manorial farm whose settlement dates back to the 1600s. Its classical stone barns from the Gilded Age and its park-like grounds were rehabilitated by polo series founder, Dan Keating in the early 1990s to revive America's first polo club and continue to thrive today as an equestrian & community recreational property, and home of the Newport International Polo Series.
Gilded Age Legacy. Polo is, without a doubt, the oldest ball game in the world today. First recorded in the 6th century b.c. when the Turkomans beat the Persians in a diplomatic tournament, the alluring game caught on with equestrian royalty and cavalry, and took off with globalization, withstanding the tests of time. Arriving on Newport’s shores during the Gilded Age, the sport had evolved for nearly 2500 years, steeped in tradition, captivating newcomers like Newport's summer sporting set who embraced the new pastime, establishing America's first polo club in 1876. A charter member of the United States Polo Association, the club today is still a trailblazing model polo club, hosting the Newport International Polo Series public exhibition matches, supporting philanthropic causes, organizing tournaments, polo club member services, and polo instruction year-round. Experience the king of games in its American landing at Newport Polo.
