This workshop will cover the indications for and surgical techniques of urethrotomy and urethrostomy in the dog. Urethral obstruction in dogs, often due to calculi, is a common presentation in small animal practice and prompt, correct surgical management is essential for a successful outcome. By the end of the course delegates should have the knowledge to decide the most appropriate treatment for a urethral obstruction and to perform a urethrotomy or a scrotal urethrostomy.
Learning Outcomes
Assess and stabilise small animal patients suffering from urethral obstruction
Select and persorm appropriate imaging studies to make an accurate diagnosis for thecause of the obstruction
Using clinical reasoning select the most appropriate intervention for mangement of the obstruction
Practice these surgical techniques in the lab session
