About this Event
Whether you are new to this type of art or looking to loosen up and develop your artistic voice, you’ll finish the course with the confidence and skills to capture the life of cities and towns with panache.
Week 1: Finding your perspective
Perspective has a double meaning: It is a technical method to render objects in space, but it can also refer to your unique vantage point in the world. This session will build your fundamental skills in technical perspective and composition, but we will also explore what draws you to particular scenes, and to particular artists.
Week 2: It’s alive!
As we move beyond structure, we’ll explore ways of capturing mood and movement. Discover how to suggest light, shadow, atmosphere, and human activity. Add depth, colour harmony, and storytelling elements that make your sketches feel vibrant and alive.
Week 3: Pulling it all together
This week you will experiment with different materials, colour strategies and mark-making approaches to create work that really expresses your own voice.
Course level: confident beginner
