Urban Sketchers Greenville- December 7th Event

Join Urban Sketchers Greenville for our December 7th event! We meet once a month to practice on-location drawing in downtown Greenville. Our events begin with a short lesson by two of our very own members, Jim and Donna Juras. followed by sketching on your own at different locations. We end with a throw-down of our drawings to admire each other's work and take a group picture.

A little bit about Donna:

I am a transplanted Michigander. I have lived in South Carolina since 2004 and have been inspired by the wildlife, lakes and mountains when I paint. I studied as an Art Major at Stephens College in Columbia Missouri, and graduated with an Associate of Arts Degree. I have been teaching for 42 years as a private instructor. I worked as Exhibit Coordinator for The Art Center, in Mount Clemens, Michigan for 5 years before moving to South Carolina. I have been a member of the Board of Directors at B.R.A.C and also worked as Exhibit Coordinator. I have also taught classes at the Blue Ridge Arts Center. I work and teach in many media. Pastel, Colored Pencil, Oil, and Pen & Ink are my personal favorites. I teach technique and drawing both of which are important to any artist. I feel that just as musicians cannot create a symphony until they have learned all the notes and practiced with their instrument, an artist should first learn the fundamental techniques of their medium before they attempt to express themselves and let their originality blossom.

A little bit about Jim:

I grew up in St. Louis, Mo. Attended the University of Missouri on a footballscholarship. Graduated in January, 1969 as an Art Major. Spent four years in theAir Force, including a stint in Vietnam and Thailand.I never worked as an artist through the years, but kept active with sideartistic endeavors. Retired in 2005 as Director of Personnel for a school district in Michigan after 18 years. We immediately moved to South Carolina. What a great decision that was. With time on my hands, I had the opportunity to tackle some art projects. One of the first was a mural for the Keowee Key Fitness Center. Then one for “Patriot’s Hall”, the Veteran’s Museum in Walhalla. Then the “Welcome to Seneca” mural in Ram Cat Alley. Then the Scoop Ice Cream Shop in Six Mile, inside and outside. Then the “Train Depot circa 1950’s” in Seneca. Then the American Flag on Mayberry’s Restaurant in Seneca. Then the front of Blue Mountain of Seneca. Then the “Welcome to the Clemson Family” mural in Clemson. Then the Art Wall at the YMCA in Seneca. Then the American Flag in front of Big Lots in Seneca. And most recently, the mural for Rudy’s Fish and Tackle Shop in Seneca. I’m always looking for the next “project”. I am thankful for the opportunity to add some color and smiles to the area.
