About this Event
Join Helen Sierminski of Nola Sidewalk Gardens and Forests for an Urban Nature Talk: A curated conversation about healthy ecosystems in the urban environment.
-Saturday, April 4th
-11am
-Washington Square Park
-700 Elysian Fields Ave
-Meet by the Native Plant Bed by Frenchmen St.
This is a guided discussion about how to cultivate healthy ecosystems in our own backyards, curbstrips and communities. We will meet at this park, by this plant bed so that we can focus on Native Plants, the backbone of a healthy ecosystem. We will discuss how we access native plants and why they are so important for our environment. We will also commune with the birds of the park who use these native plants as resources. This talk will be guided by Helen but will be open for discussion and ideas from the group at the end. There will be an opportunity to grab snacks at Ayu Bakehouse, where there are also restrooms.
Helen is an Urban Naturalist and an Urban Nature Witch who works to inspire and guide others towards creating healthy ecosystems in the Urban Environment. She is a Certified Master Naturalist and a Board Member for the Native Plant Initiative of Greater New Orleans. She is also a practicing Augur (bird divination). Her daily practice includes a holistic walk around the Marigny neighborhood, communing with the nature she encounters, reminding herself that she, too, is nature.
This talk is free but donations are happily accepted. Donations allow Helen to continue offering these discussions.
Bring a folding chair or blanket to sit on.
There will be native plant seeds to take home at the end.
