Description:
Join us for an opportunity to meet the creators of Hedgework, a sentient hedgerow at Building 77 commissioned by the Brooklyn Navy Yard, and to hear from other artists working to engage the public in conversation with and about the environment. The evening will commence with tours of the Hedgework installation, networking with the artists, followed by a panel discussion to explore New York-based socially engaged public art projects.

Panelists include: Antonina Simeti and Mark Shepard from the Hedgework team; Brooke Singer, an artist with a long history of working on collaborative, participatory artworks that engage the community in conversations and actions around climate justice; and Jer Thorpe, renowned data artist whose recent work includes an open-source toolkit for environmental sensing. All the panelists’ work demonstrates ways to frame conversations around open data collection, citizen science, community engagement and art + science collaborative practice more broadly. The panel will be moderated by Amanda McDonald Crowley, cultural worker, curator, educator and expert in the field of art as social practice.

All are welcome. Light snacks and alcohol-free drinks will be provided. Beer and wine will be available for purchase (please remember to bring your ID).
