Urban Agriculture Day in Acres Home

Greetings PVAMU Friends and Family members,

I would like to cordially welcome and invite you out to Urban Ag Day in Acres Home on Saturday June 10, 2023! Hosted by Landowners Association of Texas Houston Chapter President Adrienne Wright and PVAMU CEP Agriculture and Natural Resources Extension Agent Garrett D. Rhyne in partnership with Southern Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education by way of the USDA and Carley Howell, PVAMU Wellness in Houston Agriculture and Natural Resources Extension Associate. Mr. Robert Harding of RST Bioscience will be our guest presenter, who will actively be facilitating components of the Art and Science of Aquaponics and how this innovation is the evolution on Urban Agriculture. This event will have opportunities for participants to learn how to create an Aquaponics system through informational sessions pertaining to Sustainable Agriculture practices. Participants will have access to activities where they’ll gain experience and practice “THE THREE SISTERS METHOD” planting technique while also learning to broadcast seed stock as a beginning urban farmer. In addition to hands on demonstrations we will be discussing the importance of Water Conservation and the benefits of Nutrient quality in relation to Water Quality as well. In partnership with Landowners Association of Texas Houston Chapter, PVAMU CEP Agriculture Department and PVAMU’s Wellness in Houston will be providing “Raffle Prize Giveaways” with registration to the event and will have guest speaker, Yvette Leno of Beauty’s Urban Farm and Garden, sharing her journey throughout starting as an Urban Farmer here in Houston, TX and how she’s maintained a thriving urban agriculture presence in the community that she serves and provides fresh grown produce to annually.
