He has released 5 albums under his own name and his music has featured on radio, television and in films
In 2012 he was commissioned by The National Trust. ‘Untrue Island’ was inspired by Orford Ness Nature Reserve. Produced in collaboration with award-winning writer Robert Macfarlane it combined the written word, music and ambient sound, and was included in the 2012 Cultural Olympiad.
He has been nominated for BBC Radio 3 and Parliamentary Jazz Awards and works frequently at world-renowned jazz club Ronnie Scott’s as a sideman, bandleader and as a member of ‘The Ronnie Scott’s All-Stars’.
He teaches jazz as a Visiting Lecturer at Birmingham Conservatoire and The Royal Academy of Music.
Tom Ridout is an award-winning saxophonist and recorder player who has quickly risen to prominence on the London jazz scene. A graduate of the prestigious Royal Academy of Music, Tom has won several accolades, including the Help Musicians Peter Whittingham Jazz Award and the Lancaster Jazz Festival Youth Jazz Commission. He is a prolific composer who has released his debut album “No Excuses” to great critical acclaim. With a unique energy and creativity in his performances, Tom has performed with some of the biggest names in jazz and has played at some of the most iconic venues in the UK. His dedication to his craft and passion for music make him one of the most exciting young musicians in the industry today.
Jonathan Silk is a Scottish drummer, composer and band leader now living in Birmingham, UK. He graduated from the city’s Conservatoire in 2011 and has since been an up and coming musician and in-demand sideman on the UK’s vibrant Jazz scene. As a leader he has multiple projects to his name. The dynamic improvising quartet FORJ is designed to give maximum space to the musicians in the group for freedom and improvisation. His large ensemble project has recorded and released two albums; the first Uncouth featuring trumpet virtuoso Percy Pursglove with the 18-strong big band, the second Fragment augmenting this big band with a 13-piece string orchestra. He performs regularly across the UK both with his own projects and as a sideman with a variety of other musicians.
