The Southcentral Foundation Green Team announces the return of the employee Upcycling Competition! The event will be held in the Anchorage Native Primary Care Center lobby June 24 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Employees and customer-owners are invited to vote for their favorite entries during the competition.There are four different categories that will be voted on:
– Artistic Value
– Functionality
– Humor
– Creativity
Never heard of upcycling? That is okay; upcycling is an easy and fun activity that celebrates the environment. Examples include making guitars into bookshelves, turning plastic bags into a dress, or even turning old spoons into a chandelier.
The goal of upcycling is to prevent the waste of potentially useful materials while reducing the consumption of new, raw materials. Small changes like upcycling old materials can result in a reduction of energy use, air or water pollution, and even reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
