Keep Norfolk Beautiful and Norfolk Public Library invite you to the UpCycle Festival - A celebration of sustainability and creativity for America Recycles Day! Saturday, Nov. 15 10am to 2pm Mary D. Pretlow Anchor Branch Library 111 W. Ocean View Ave.
Join in this fun, free and family-friendly community event and learn creative and exciting new ways to repurpose, reinvent and reimagine everyday items to reduce waste.
The UpCycle Festival brings together environmental organizations, local artists and makers to showcase innovative ways to repurpose materials and reduce waste. Attendees will participate in hands-on workshops, view upcycled art and explore a variety of ways to cut down on waste, conserve resources and create something new and meaningful.
Highlights Include:
*Composting workshop
*Jewelry making and repair
*Basic hand sewing
*Plastic bag basket weaving
*Metal flower-making
*And much more!
As part of America Recycles Day, the Norfolk Environmental Commission (NEC) will host a panel discussion on actionable solutions and community engagement to combat plastic pollution. Moderated by NEC Vice Chair Ken Kimidy, the discussion marks the second phase of the Commission’s initiative following last spring’s screening of “The Story of Plastic.” Local leaders, environmental advocates and residents are invited to join and explore strategies for meaningful change.
The UpCycle Festival is free and family friendly. Most activities will take place at the Randi Marston Peterson Maker Studio, Youth Services Program Room and outside on the patio.
