Unwind in the Woods: forest bathing at Salcey

Join us for a journey among the beautiful trees of Salcey, home to ancient oaks and once part of a medieval royal hunting forest. With its origins in the Japanese art of Shinrin-yoku, forest bathing involves immersing ourselves in the woods. Tuning in to our senses lets us relax and reconnect with nature, while research is beginning to reveal how time spent under the canopy of trees gives us a mental and physical boost.

Your 2-hour session will involve a gentle walk through the forest, with regular stops for a series of sensory activities designed to calm body and mind.

Your guide will be Liz Burfield, who trained as a forest bathing guide having experienced first-hand the benefits of mindfulness and nature on depression. Her sessions are friendly, down to earth, and suitable for anyone who enjoys being outdoors.

HELPFUL TO KNOW:

• For Forestry England members with a discount code: when you click on 'Get tickets' a pop-up window will open. Please use the 'promo code' box at the top of this window to enter your code and then click 'apply' BEFORE proceeding to checkout.
• Parking: parking at Salcey is free for Forestry England members. For non-Forestry England members - to save on the normal cost of £8, please ensure you pre-book your parking with us when buying your ticket. You will then be able to park either all day (term time weekdays) or for up to an hour after the finish time for your session (weekends and holidays) for just £3.80, giving you the chance to enjoy a more time in the woods or a snack at the cafe during your visit!
• During the session we are likely to cover 1-2 kilometres – this will be at a slow pace. Unfortunately, however, Unwind in the Woods at Salcey is not currently suitable for anyone using a wheelchair, or with severe mobility limitations – if you have any questions or concerns please contact Liz for a chat prior to booking.
