This innovative project showcases the unveiling of the first-ever diabetes mural titled "What Does Diabetes Look Like?", born from the dedication and creativity of our Teen Leadership Program participants, also known as Counselors in Training (CIT). These exceptional young leaders, all living with type 1 diabetes, collaborated with local artists Eddie Guth and Nathaniel Benjamin to bring this visually impactful representation of diabetes to fruition. The project was made possible through the generous sponsorship of the Scott K. Canepa Foundation.
The new patio will serve as a dynamic focal point for individuals and families affected by diabetes, providing a welcoming space for support group gatherings, educational workshops, and community events. It embodies our commitment to supporting the diabetes community—because "Your Diabetes Journey is Our Journey." Sarah Gleich, CEO of the Nevada Diabetes Association, expressed her enthusiasm for the initiative:
"This patio symbolizes more than just a physical space—it embodies the essence of our mission. It signifies empowerment for those living with diabetes and the community it fosters. We are immensely proud of our CIT teens for spearheading this remarkable project and deeply appreciate the community's unwavering support. This space allows us to redefine perceptions of diabetes and nurture the future of our diabetes community."
The ceremony will feature remarks by local leaders, an introduction of the teens who led the project, and a guided tour of the new patio. This project is part of NDA's broader efforts to enhance services for the diabetes community by providing crucial education, support, and emergency medical aid.
We warmly invite the public to attend this special celebration. For additional information or to RSVP, please contact the Nevada Diabetes Association at [email protected] or call (800) 379-3839.
