The Mai Wah Society will unveil for the first time the historic interpretation of five silk screen embroideries at its museum during the Uptown Butte Art Walk scheduled for Friday, June 5, 2026. The Mai Wah Museum is located at 17 West Mercury Street, and the Art Walk is from 5:00-8:00 p.m. The silk pieces, on loan from descendants of the Chinn family, have been exhibited at the museum for years. However, thanks to a partnership with Chinese artist Li Haobai, the Mai Wah now has an interpretive booklet explaining the background and historical significance of each piece. Li Haobai is an award-winning Chinese painter specializing in traditional Chinese landscape art who has dedicated herself to ink paintings for many years. She analyzed the artistic style used to create each piece, placed the work in historical context, and explained what the images and written characters meant during that time. Many of the images draw on thousands of years of culture, art, and tradition.
Booklets with Haobai’s historic interpretation will be available during the Art Walk at the museum, where the public will also be able to view the silk works of art. The Mai Wah will provide light refreshments.
