Until They See Us Too: When you strike a woman you strike a rock!
Join us in person for an empowering event celebrating women's a.d girls strength resilience. Until They See Us Too is a permanent fixture of the work the Injustice Reform Network does to amplify the voices and experiences of women and girls in carceral spaces.
This year's theme is "When you strike a woman you strike a rock" We are purposely hosting this event in the month of August for two reasons,
To uplift and honor a very historic moment in history- The Women's March which happened on August 9, 1956. This date marks a pivotal moment in South African history when approximately 20,000 women of all races marched to the Union Buildings in Pretoria to protest the apartheid-era "pass laws" that restricted the movement of Black women. The marchers chanted the now-famous phrase, “Wathint' abafazi, wathint' imbokodo” (When you strike a woman, you strike a rock), which has become a symbol of women’s courage, solidarity, and strength in South Africa.
Noting the month of August as Black August, an annual commemoration held throughout the month to honor Black political prisoners, freedom fighters, and the global struggle for racial liberation. Initiated in 1979 in the California Pr*son system, it focuses on education, resistance, and Pr*son abolition which is akin to our mission to eradicate all forms of injustice through education, advocacy, and action.
