An event by dani_carriereWinnipeg and Manitoba have a wealth of Mystery (or Unknown) geocaches. Many people are intimidated by this type of cache so, we're going to buddy up and try and tackle them.
"For every Mystery there is someone somewhere who know the truth. Perhaps it's you."
The overall event will take place on Saturday, Jan 25th and will run from 10:30AM to 3:00PM and will be broken down into 3 parts:
Part 1: Puzzle Solving 101 10:30AM to 11:30AM
This is meant for those of you who are unsure of your puzzle solving ability, or even unsure where to start when solving them. I will give a 1 hour (ish) tutorial to help you get past any puzzle anxiety you may have and help you work through some easier puzzle caches. If you are already comfortable in solving puzzles, you can skip this hour.
Lunch Break:( New this year! )
It was suggested that we have a break mid-day to allow for people to eat a lunch or snack. Please bring you're own food and drink to enjoy your "elevenses".
Part 2: Puzzle Solving Workshop Noon to 2:30PM
This is the "meat and potatoes" of the event where everyone comes with their thinking caps on. We'll break up into small groups to work on puzzles from the list of caches requested to be solved. (see below).
If there are any caches that you want to solve during this workshop, please send me a list through my profile and I will add it to this cache page. Please don't send them on the "day of" the workshop as there is some pre-work on my part.
Note for latecomers: Please do not come any later than 1:00PM. It's only fair to those who have diligently worked on solving puzzles to reap the benefits. Anyone arriving after 1:00PM can log an "attended", but will not be given puzzle solutions.
Note for families: Children are welcome to attend, however if they are not actively solving puzzles, and the room becomes crowded, they will be relegated to the library proper and must follow the library's rules for behavior. Also, tables are reserved for active solvers only.
Part 2A: Reset the Meeting Room 2:30PM to 3:00PM
Before we wrap up for the day, we need to have the tables and chairs and all of our stuff cleaned up, and be out of the room by 3:00PM. I will rely on you to assist with that.
Part 3: Puzzle Hunting! 3:00PM to whenever you want to stop
What's the fun in solving puzzles if you're not going to go and find them! After we've gotten some solutions under our belts, let's go find them! You can either do this on your own, or join other groups to go on a hunt (or two).
What is being supplied:
We'll have a private room with chairs, tables, wi-fi, and maybe some flipcharts and white boards.
What to Bring:
Laptops, tablets, smart phones, GPS devices, beverages, snacks, paper, pens, anything you think you'll need to get you through the session (no alcohol, please!)
A small donation of $2 to $5 to help offset any costs that may be incurred. If you want to donate more that's great. Any money collected above the costs will be used for next year's event. Thank you to the MBGA for allowing us to use their Not for Profit status to get a discounted rate on the room rental.
