About this Event
In Unseen Yet Seen, Asma Elbadawi explores the intricate balance of visibility and concealment experienced as a wife.
In various communities, the identities of female relatives are often safeguarded, reflecting deep respect and cultural values. Yet, the subtle influence of these women quietly shapes their surroundings, leaving traces that can still be felt—and occasionally seen. Through self-portraiture, poetry, and conversation, the artist investigates how this practice influences her identity. Each image captures moments of family life, balancing the joy of connection with the subtleties of partial concealment. From playful interactions to intimate domestic scenes, the project reveals the multifaceted layers of existence—how personal aspirations intertwine with cultural expectations. This work invites viewers to reflect on the delicate balance of being both seen and unseen, celebrating the rich tapestry of experiences that define life as a wife within this unique cultural context.
The poetry performance will be accompanied by a photography showcase by the artist, and followed by an open conversation with the audience.
