Unlocking the Keys to the World:
A One Day Workshop About Culture in the Casa
Are you ready to bring a fresh perspective to your primary classroom's cultural area? Join Sara Manna for an enriching workshop dedicated to this amazing area of the Casa environment.
Dr. Montessori gave us the idea of "keys to culture" and a way to introduce the concepts of supranature to children ages 3 to 6. Let's spend some time reviewing these foundational principles, exploring effective delivery methods, and understanding the profound "why" behind our presentations.
This is more than a review—it's an opportunity to create and collaborate. You will:
- Rediscover the power of extensions and consider why they are so important for the primary environment.
- Make new geography folders and leave with something new to enrich your class. Whether you focus on your local community or the continents, you'll walk away with a personalized set of resources.
- Share and discover resources with your peers by collaborating with other guides to build a shared Google folder of photos and materials for geography, land and water forms, and more.
Once you register, you’ll receive a link where you can:
- Upload your own photos from around the world to share with others
- Select the photos you’d like to have pre-printed for your folders
You’ll have continued access to this shared link even after the workshop, so you can keep building and refining your folders throughout the year.
Workshop materials include:
- A curated set of pre-printed images
- Access to a wireless printer (for printing your blurbs)
- Colour-coding stickers and cardstock
Please bring: your own device for writing blurbs.
Come reconnect with the core of the Montessori cultural curriculum, make new materials, and leave inspired to unlock the world for the children.
WORKSHOP FEE INCLUDES LUNCH
ABOUT THE PRESENTER:
Sara (Priolo) is a 3-6 Auxiliary Trainer, who has a love for material making and many types of handwork, she specifically enjoys quilting and knitting. She was a Montessori child, then a Montssori guide, and now a Montessori school administrator and a Trainer in Training. Through her observations in a variety of classrooms and training centres, she noticed that some of the cultural materials are missing or very outdated. Let's work together to make some new ones that are attractive to both you and the children, furthering our experiences with both physical and cultural geography from where we are in the world.
