About this Event
Described by the National Parks Service as “a popular final resting place for the famous and powerful,” Woodlawn Cemetery in the Bronx is distinguished by memorials that “represent the largest and finest collection of funerary art in the country.” It's time to step inside some of the country’s most opulent family mausoleums that are rarely unlocked for the public...until now.
Join New York Adventure Club for a behind-the-scenes experience at Woodlawn Cemetery, one of the largest cemeteries in New York City covering more than 400 acres and serving as the resting place for more than 300,000 people.
Led by a Woodlawn Cemetery docent, our unique experience will include:
- An overview of Woodlawn Cemetery, and how it became the favored cemetery of so many prominent NYC families from the late 1800s to early 1900s
- An exploration of the cemetery’s grounds to see some of its most notable mausoleums, sculptures, and landscapes
- Special access inside Gilded Age family mausoleums including the incredibly ornate Harkness and Harbeck mausoleums, which contain everything from Tiffany glass pieces to Italian marble
Our experience will conclude at the picnic tables behind the main office, so feel free to bring your lunch or a snack.

See you there!
*Please bring water and a comfortable pair of shoes since we’ll be walking across slightly uneven surfaces on the cemetery grounds
