Panel experts, candidates, and elected officials will discuss how Chicago can best tackle the rising cost of housing and property taxes
About this Event

Chicago is at a crossroads. Between rising rents, property taxes, and a housing market in crisis, the "City that Works" needs solutions that actually work in practice, not just in theory.

Join the Chicago Growth Project on June 14th for a transparent, deep-dive panel and moderated discussion forum on the housing policies shaping our city’s future. This forum brings together a rare mix of Chicagoland city, county, state, and federal officials alongside advocates and experts who live and breathe housing policy in the city.

The Conversations That Matter

We’re moving past the talking points to look at the real-world trade-offs of Chicago’s biggest housing levers:

The Affordability Spectrum: Examining the viability of improving housing affordability through rent-controlled models, housing vouchers, public housing, market housing solutions, family and community-friendly housing, and more.

Supply vs. Demand: A balanced look at the roles of government-oriented housing programs, pure market-rate development, or a hybrid of both approaches in solving the housing supply crisis. We also delve into the challenges in areas of the city where demand and government funding support for housing demand could be a bigger challenge to the housing crisis than supply.

The Property Tax Equation: How we stabilize the city's budget without crushing homeowners, renters, and businesses.

Political Feasibility: A "real talk" session with elected officials on what can actually pass—and what’s standing in the way.

Confirmed Speakers

We are pleased to announce the first wave of confirmed panelists for our housing policy discussion. Our lineup features leaders from the federal, state, and local levels who are directly involved in the future of Chicago’s growth:

Congressman Mike Quigley - 5th Congressional District

State Senator Sara Feigenholtz - 6th District

Alderman Red Burnett - 27th Ward

Drake Warren, Cook County Commissioner Candidate - 10th District Democratic Party Nominee

Paul Kendrick, State Representative Candidate - 12th District Democratic Party Nominee

We will be announcing more panelists in the coming weeks!
