Explore the transformative impact of microgravity on scientific research with space-biotech specialists, ResearchSat
About this Event

The Innovation & Collaboration Centre (ICC) along with space-biotech pinoneers ResearchSat invite you to join us in a discussion about the transformative impact of microgravity on scientific research, from altering microbial behaviour to unveiling the properties of new materials.

Jibin Jeffrey Dhanaraj (ResearchSat CTO) and Raviteja Duggineni (ResearchSat founder and CEO), will share how the unique conditions of space can lead to breakthroughs in biomedicine, materials science, and pharmacology, outlining an end-to-end journey from experiment development to launch, retrieval of experiments, and post mission analytics.

The presentation will be followed by a Q&A on the immense potential that this type of research could have on human health with Jibin, Ravi, France-based scientific advisor, Dr Adeel Nasir, and Michael Rimbas, co-founder and Director of Perth-based Ablano Nanomaterials.

We’ll also celebrate ResearchSat's recent achievements with their mission success aboard the MAPHEUS14 sounding rocket, launched from the Swedish Arctic Circle.

This event will appeal to researchers, industry leaders and company executives in biotechnology, the pharmaceutical and space sectors.

Following event formalities, the ICC and ResearchSat invite guests to join us for drinks, food, and networking.

Registration is essential as numbers are limited. Please RSVP by Friday, 26 April 2024.

Getting to know ResearchSat

ResearchSat is a space-biotech company that facilitates scientific research in space microgravity for groundbreaking discoveries. It acts as a research contractor in space, where it develops bespoke satellites for R&D activities, handles turn-key logistics and delivers experiment outcomes. Its bespoke space R&D platforms accelerate scientific research and deliver unique research insights to develop new knowledge and advanced space and terrestrial applications. ResearchSat's mission is to enable life-saving therapeutics through democratising the access to microgravity and its sciences.

ResearchSat is a resident of the ICC and alumni of their Venture Catalyst Space program in 2018. This year, ResearchSat will participate in MTPConnect’s Global Market Navigator program.

Dr Adeel Nasir

Dr. Adeel Nasir earned his PhD in the field of gravitational biology from Friedrich Alexander University of Erlangen-Nuremberg in a German space agency funded project. His PhD thesis deciphered the molecular basis of light and gravity-sensing mechanisms in the unicellular organism Euglena gracilis. He has worked on enhancing the delivery of non-antibiotic antimicrobial compounds to multidrug-resistant bacteria and has identified drug candidate molecules for their ability to ameliorate the situation of patients suffering from Parkinson’s disease. He has worked on improving an antibiotic alternative approach to eradicate life threatening multidrug resistant bacteria residing in the lungs of patients with cystic fibrosis. In Dr. Nasir's words; ‘’Space technologies will not only help humans to colonise space but also tackle severe challenges on Earth’.’

Michael Rimbas

Michael Rimbas is co-founder and Director of Ablano. With over eight years’ experience in the finance industry focusing on investment management and asset allocation in the private & public equity markets, Michael worked alongside varying SMEs who were heavily involved in novel and innovative technologies. This led to the creation of Ablano, a nanotechnology company based in Perth, Western Australia. Its goal is to become a global leader in the research, development, and commercialisation of advanced nanomaterials. The company’s current focus revolves around the commercial scale up and integration of its Boron Nitride Nano-onion (BNNO) and Few Layer Graphene products.
