To move from the core is to allow your dance to start from intention. Unlock Your Dance is a workshop that invites you to research this starting point and let it guide your movement.The workshop focuses on improvisation as a practical tool. You will work with clear tasks that help you listen, trust your instincts, and move with a sense of intention even when you do not know what comes next.
The workshop is shaped by Gard Lervang’s research in freestyle hip hop, butoh, and forest dancing. From the grounded and musical play of hip hop, to the raw physical honesty of butoh, to the sensory exploration inspired by moving in nature. Together they form a complete toolkit that helps you find stability, risk taking, and clarity in your movement.
Throughout the workshop you will explore how you are perceived when you dance and how to stay true to your own movement language while still being present for an audience. You will also be encouraged to notice what feels natural in your body and what patterns you want to break. The exercises aim to strengthen your confidence, reconnect you with your physical intuition, and expand your movement vocabulary in a way that feels personal.
This workshop is open to everyone. Beginners will find a welcoming space with step by step guidance, while experienced dancers can use the workshop to challenge their habits and sharpen their improvisational awareness.
