Experience an unforgettable evening as the University of Memphis presents the world premiere of "Jus Soli," an epic and grand oratorio with profound international implications.
Composed by Kamran Ince, a Turkish-American award-winning University of Memphis composer, this substantial work is a stylistic collage of contemporary concert music infused with popular and spiritual elements from Greek and Turkish traditions.
The performance will showcase the exceptional talent of UofM and Memphis with remarkable soloists, a powerful choir, and a dynamic orchestra, making it a pinnacle event on Memphis' cultural calendar.
In addition to the rich aural experience, audiences will be treated to a stunning visual spectacle. The entire hall will serve as a canvas for digitally generated visual and video art created by the renowned design studio, Nohlab - Istanbul, enhancing the overall sensory experience.
Jus Soli, an oratorio, was commissioned by Greek National Opera in late 2019, to commemorate the 200th Anniversary of the independence of Greece from the Ottoman Empire. The idea was to include in the commissions and celebrations an Oratorio that came from a team from the opposite side, the Ottomans, i.e., the current day Turks. The creative team consists of composer Kamran Ince, librettist Izzeddin Calislar and the lighting design group NOHLAB (Istanbul).
Featured guest artists: Mary Wilson, soprano, Carlos Enrique Santelli, tenor, Matthew Burns, bass, University of Memphis Symphony Orchestra and Choir, Stephen Karr, conductor
Adding to the significance of this event, the performance will be recorded for international release by Naxos Records.
Don't miss this extraordinary and internationally significant event that promises to be a highlight of the Memphis arts scene.
