University of Chicago Pancreas Symposium: Pancreatic Cysts and Cancer

The University of Chicago Pancreas Symposium: Pancreatic Cysts and Cancer will deliver a focused, interdisciplinary exploration of pancreatic cysts and cancer, advancing the clinical capabilities of healthcare professionals managing these increasingly common and complex conditions. With an emphasis on the evolving roles of medical, oncologic, interventional, and surgical therapies, it will address pressing gaps in both foundational knowledge and advanced practice. Participants will gain critical updates on diagnostic and management strategies for pancreatic cysts, along with emerging evidence on surgical techniques, chemotherapeutic options, and molecular profiling in pancreatic cancer care.

This year’s symposium will feature a unique and timely component: a dedicated panel of patients, caregivers, and early detection experts sharing real-world perspectives on surveillance, caregiving, and advocacy. By incorporating these voices, the activity underscores the human impact of delayed diagnosis and fragmented care, issues that continue to challenge clinicians and contribute to poor outcomes in pancreatic disease. This activity is designed for gastroenterologists, surgeons, oncologists, interventional endoscopists, anesthesiologists, psychologists, hospitalists, internists, advanced practice nurses, physician assistants, trainees, registered dietitians, and nurses dedicated to caring for patients with pancreatic cysts and pancreatic cancer.

After this activity, participants will be able to:

• Interpret molecular diagnostics and surveillance strategies to enhance early detection of pancreatic cancer in high-risk individuals;
• Apply current evidence-based guidelines to the surveillance and management of pancreatic cystic neoplasms;
• Manage complications of pancreatic cancer treatment using surgical, endoscopic, and supportive care approaches;
• Incorporate patient and caregiver perspectives to improve communication, empathy, and culturally competent care in pancreatic disease management;
• Evaluate advances in endoscopic ultrasound, surgical, and systemic therapies for the diagnosis and management of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma.
