University of Arizona Eller College of Management Hosts Breakfast with the Economists May 26

On Thursday May 26 the University of Arizona Eller College of Management hosts its 2022 Breakfast with the Economists. Held at the Westin La Paloma Resort & Spa at 3800 E. Sunrise Dr. the event features keynote speakers George Hammond and Anthony Chan who will offer analysis on what to expect for the global state and local economies in the future.

“It is always a pleasure and an honor for us to present this annual event and to share the insight and knowledge of Dr. Hammond and Dr. Chan” says Jeff Schatzberg dean for an interim period and Frances McClelland Chair of Accounting at the Eller College. “We look forward to presenting an informative and engaging event that provides clear answers and potential suggestions for the future of our economy on a local state national and global level.”

Check-in the day of the event begins at 7 a.m.; breakfast program takes place from 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. during which Hammond and Chan will cover the topics of Arizona’s economy how it rapidly rebounded from the initial shock of the pandemic and how it has replaced all jobs lost from February to April of 2020 as well as discuss how Arizona’s unemployment rate is well below pre-pandemic levels and near the national rate and the labor market which is in turmoil as firms struggle to hire while many workers rethink their career paths. 

The speakers will discuss the impacts of inflation spikes as well as Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and the resulting increase in gasoline prices. They will answer questions such where global national state and local economies are heading; will increasingly restrictive monetary policy succeed in bringing inflation down without causing a recession; will state and local house prices moderate or will housing affordability continue to plummet; when will the travel and tourism sector fully rebound; and will manufacturing jobs continue to grow?

Early-bird tickets begin at $50 per person and $500 per table (seating for 10); early bird pricing ends Friday May 13 and then tickets increase to $55 per person and $550 per table.
