Featured presentation: “United We Stand: Confronting Christian Nationalism at Home,” Laurel Burchfield
Laurel Burchfield (she/her) began working with Mainstream in 2021 and currently leads the organization's state and federal advocacy work as advocacy director. Mainstream, composed of Mainstream Coalition (501(c)(4)) and Mainstream Civic Engagement (501(c)(3)), was founded over 30 years ago by Kansas faith and community leaders to fight against religious extremism in local and state policy. Laurel previously worked to advance anti-poverty legislation in the state of Michigan. She holds an MA in International Peace and Conflict Resolution and interned in Tanzania and Ethiopia. Laurel currently serves as a councilmember in the city of Shawnee, Kansas.
