Northern Ireland Unite - Guild of Healthcare Pharmacists (GHP) Symposium

Early Careers and Pathways in Ph*rm*cy Practice

In your early years of being a pharmacist there are so many questions, challenges and decisions to be addressed. At the Northern Ireland Unite GHP symposium we have a range of speakers who are leaders and opinion makers who can helps answer your questions, discuss the challenges and empower you to form your decisions.

We are serving a light soup and sandwich lunch from 13:30 and please stay for our hot buffet dinner at 18:00 designed especially for our delegates and speakers to network in an informal setting.

Draft Symposium Programme, (may be subject to change)

Doors open 1.30pm, light lunch of soup and sandwiches

o 2.00pm – Introduction and Welcome from Des Gourley, (Unite GHP council member for NI)

o 2.05pm – Keynote speech by Cathy Harrison, (Chief Pharmaceutical Officer, Northern Ireland)

o 2.15pm - Professionalism starts with ‘U’ - Gavin Fergie, Lead Professional Officer, (Unite the union)

o 2.25pm - Established prescribing, training and development - Anticoagulant service (SHSCT)

o 2.35pm - Navigating prescribing challenges in specialist pharmacist roles - Sarah Pedlow (BHSCT)

o 2.50pm - Pathfinding new pharmacist roles in response to care model transformation - Connor McGee (SHSCT)

o 3.05pm - Overcoming prescribing challenges - Anna Fay, (GP federation pharmacist)

  • Comfort break

o 3.25pm - You Choose between;

  • What will new structured professional development mean for you? (NICPLD)
  • Getting the job you want - interview/application skills (HSC)

o 4.30pm - Helping early career pharmacists thrive – Sue Wong (Unite - GHP)

o 4.40pm - Protected Time Campaign - Rob Connah (President Unite - GHP)

o 4.50pm - Closing remarks, Susan Fitzgerald (Unite)

o 5.00 pm - Panel Discussion
