The final Compline in our Lenten series is upon us.UNITAS, the sum of talented voices from all 5 of our choirs
will present Compline aka: Night Prayer on
Sunday, April 6th, 7 p.m. at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church
201 High Street, Nevada City 95959.
Compline is the 7th and final short chanted prayer service of the Monastic Day.
Almost the entire service is sung or chanted. There is nothing like this in California.

Besides the usual Anglican and Gregorian chant, the program includes 3 harmonized Psalm settings for the season of Lent. In Psalm 31, David reminds us that "the Lord is our refuge". Psalm 126 says "the Lord has done great things for us and we are glad indeed." The final Penitential Psalm is Psalm 51 and pleads "Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me".
These are some of the finest Psalm settings you will ever hear, where the musical setting fits David's texts so perfectly; each aspect complimenting the other.
With our historic, candlelit, 1873 sanctuary, and Unitas singing unseen behind you from the loft, you can have a kind of test run on eternity when the choir intones: "Into thy hands, O Lord, I commend my spirit." These are some of the last words said by Jesus on the Cross on Good Friday.
