In Summertime during June and July #UnicyclesAreAThing meets every Friday evening at 7:00PM at a great spot on the Southside River Trail near 27th St. It is a large flat smooth open area with lots of railings to hold onto which is great for starting out and learning how to ride. We love to ride anything on one wheel. We ride a variety of unicycles including tall ones (giraffes), fat-tire unis (for off road riding), All different size wheels (12”, 16”, 18”, 20”, 24”, 26”, 27.5”, 29”, 32”, and the largest size - 36”. Occasionally we bring other interesting contraptions like circus bikes or ultimate wheels. Come join us for an evening and try a unicycle!
Who can join #UnicyclesAreAThing?
Anyone! We have male and female members ranging in ages from 5 to 50 plus. At other unicycling events, we have met unicyclists who were over 70 years old.
Does it cost anything?
There is no cost to attend #UnicyclesAreAThing Friday evening events. Thick Bikes is picking up the tab.
How many people attend the Friday night sessions?
Typically we have 5 - 25 people coming to each of our sessions. Each at varying levels of ability. Sometimes we work on group riding skills or play games like tag or follow the leader.
When and where do you meet?

Do I need my own unicycle to come to a session?
We have loaner unicycles of various sizes for you to ride so you do not need to purchase one unless you want to have your own to ride on other days of the week. We also provide some helmets but we encourage you to bring/wear your own. Bicycle helmets work perfectly.
What else should I know about these events?
Unicycling is easier, safer and more fun if you are dressed appropriately. Flat soled shoes - like skate shoes are the best for standing on pedals. Shoes with high heels, leather soles or missing center sections of sole can be difficult to ride in and will handicap your progress. The last thing you need when trying to ride a unicycle is a handicap. Obviously wearing a helmet is a good idea. Bring one if you have it. Other than that, clothes that you would be comfortable riding a bike in will probably work pretty well.
Where can I buy a unicycle and how much do they cost?
Not coincidentally we sell a huge variety of unicycles at Thick Bikes. We have big ones and little ones . We have Uni for road, freestyle, trials and offroad. We even sell the ones used for #UnicyclesAreAThing as demos at a reduced price. You can get a good quality unicycle starting at around $100+ or you can spend as much as $1000 for a really nice one.
