The first Unicorn Ceilidh of the new season will be at St Mary’s Church Hall, Baldock on Friday, 12th September with music from Panjandrum and Gordon Potts calling.Panjandrum are a band playing for English ceilidh dances with the emphasis on providing the most danceable, foot-tapping music. Their tunes come from all over the place: England, Italy, France, Sweden, Finland, Northolt – in fact anywhere that can provide you with memorable melodies. Gordon Potts plays with the band, but has been calling with the best bands in the land for many years, and has a huge repertoire of great dances.
Our interval dance team, New Esperance Morris (known as Esps to their friends), have been continuing the tradition of women’s Morris dancing in London since the 1970s. They dance Cotswold Dances in the traditions of Bledington, Fieldtown, Ilmington, and their own Esperance tradition. The team was formed in 1973, inspired by Mary Neal’s historical Espérance Club girls, who were young women dancers from the turn of 1900.
The evening starts at 8:00 p.m. (doors open at 7:30), and finishes at 11.00 p.m. Adults - £11, concessions and children’s tickets available (see website for details). There’s a real ale, cider, wine and soft drinks bar and a raffle at the half-time break; parking is easy in the town centre, just walk to the church and you’ll find the hall in the church grounds.
