About this Event
UNHU - “I am because we are”...
Unhu, which is derived from Ubuntu, is a philosophy originating from the Shona people of Southern Africa. It has no direct translation, however it can be freely translated into the above statement - “I am because we are” ? It is a term used mostly in a philosophical sense to mean “the belief in a universal bond of sharing that connects all humanity”.
As a collective, we aim to to bring this philosophy to the community through our love of music and dancing, whether that be at our annual festival, or at our favourite community hubs - such as Hoogah, who share the same ethos.
To accompany our Earth celebration, a one night only, specially curated plant based menu will be offered.
The menu:
- West African Sweet Potato and Peanut Stew - a rich and earthy stew, served with wild rice and fried plantain.
- UNHU Buddha Bowl - a fresh and zesty, Asian inspired Buddha bowl.
- Crispy Mushroom Burger with Wild Garlic Ailoi - mushroom lovers unite, for a filthy, fungi delight.
Sides:
- Akara - Black bean and ocra fritters served with green chermoula.
- Satay Seitan Skewers.
- Fried Yam Chips
Deserts:
- Mango and Pistachio Lassi Ice Lolly
- Spiced Chocolate Mousse
You will be able to make your selection on which delicious dish you would like when buying a ticket. We are also offering tickets without food - entry from 9pm, when the dance floor will be created.
At this event, you can expect organic sounds from some of our UNHU resident DJ's. Bringing an eclectic pallet of genres such as CafeClub and Dub selections, Downtempo, Melodic House and Techno, and Liquid Drum and Bass.
The entry fee will be donated to Don't Be a Tosser Swansea - a local litter picking project and campaigner for a cleaner world, who's main focus is keeping Swansea's beautiful beaches clean. Natasha, founder of the project, has told us that the money raised from this event will be specifically spent on much needed bag dispensers for Swansea Bay and Langland, as these are the most targeted beaches in which litter is often left.
We can't wait to celebrate the community and the Earth with you!
Much Love,
UNHU and the Hoogah CRHU x
