About this Event

Description

This training provides educators, caregivers, and family-support professionals with a foundational understanding of how trauma affects children’s development, behavior, and learning.

Participants will explore the neurological, emotional, and behavioral consequences of adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) and chronic stress, as well as how trauma can influence developmental milestones, self-regulation, social-emotional skills, and classroom performance.

Through real-world examples, reflective activities, and evidence-informed strategies, attendees will learn to recognize trauma-related behaviors, differentiate them from willful misbehavior, and respond with empathy and effectiveness.

The training also introduces trauma-informed approaches that promote safety, predictability, and connection, helping children build resilience and supporting their capacity to learn and thrive.

By the end of this course, participants will be better equipped to create trauma-sensitive environments, strengthen relationships with children and families, and implement supportive practices that foster healing and healthy development.

Learning Objectives

Participants will be able to:

  • Name five different stress responses that are visible within themselves, or the people they are working with.
  • Name nine different stressors that may lead to toxic stress in children and adults.
  • Identify the six guiding principles of trauma-informed practice.
  • Identify the two types of protective factors and the significance of these protective factors.
  • Describe three foundational concepts related to trauma-informed practice, healing, and resistance.
  • Identify the three types of stress responses found in various educational settings.
