About this Event

Join us to learn more about the intersections of domestic violence, sexualized violence, and the MMIP crisis; how our local communities have historically been impacted by MMIP; and what implications this public health issue poses for the wellbeing of indigenous peoples everywhere.

Hear from local speaker Danielle Vigil-Masten, Hoopa Valley Tribal member with over 20+ years of experience in advocacy, tribal management, and law; as well as Lori Jump, citizen of the Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians and CEO of StrongHearts Native Helpline.

Food will be provided. This event is free and open to the public.

About the Speakers

Danielle Vigil-Masten is a member of the Hoopa Valley Tribe who holds over 20 years of experience in advocacy, tribal management, and law. She was the second female Chairwoman of the Hoopa Valley Tribe from 2013-2015, and was most recently the former Manager and Advocate of K'ima:w Medical Center's office of DV/SA/MMIP Prevention Program for five years. She has also worked with Yurok Tribal Court Judge Abby Abinanti in various positions such as Tribal Court Mediator, Court Advocate, and Crisis Intervention Domestic Violence Advocate.

A prominent community advocate for tribal issues and anti-violence/MMIP efforts, Danielle holds various certificates in tribal leadership, domestic violence and sexual assault advocacy, trauma-informed services, tribal advocacy, Native language (Hupa/Yurok), MMIP advocate training, and cultural competency. While Danielle's work centers around the needs of her local community, she also engages in state- and nationwide efforts to uplift tribal issues.

Lori Jump is a Citizen of the Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians and Tribal Appellate Court Judge for the Sault Ste. Marie Tribal Chippewa Court. She was the former Executive Director and is a Current Board Member of Uniting Three Fires Against Violence, a domestic violence/sexual assault tribal coalition in Michigan. She also served on the Federal Task Force researching Violence Against American Indians and Alaska Native Women.

With 26+ years of tribal advocacy experience in her community under her belt, she has helped to develop multiple tribal programs from the ground up, including victim services and advocacy programs, tribal court and law enforcement programs, and women's shelters.
