About this Event

1.5 day course 25 CPD Hours with prereading and webinars included

This will be a 1.5 day interactive workshop with hands on and theory provided through an online learning platform . The two days will comprise of three speakers including a specialist orthodontist , orthodontic hygienist and general hygienist discussing the why when and how of orthodontics .

Dental hygienists and OHTs often see patients who are either in some type of active orthodontic treatment or have some type of retainer, work with general dentists who place and treat orthodontic patients or currently or want to work in a specialist orthodontic setting.

There are numerous techniques and appliances available that dental hygienists need to know when to refer, how to maintain or help in the treatment. This course is designed to increase knowledge, confidence and extend scope of dental hygienists and OHTs to work competently with orthodontic patients .

- when to refer for orthodontic treatment

- Why is orthodontic treatment needed , when and where

- Treatment options for orthodontics

- appliance option for orthodontics

- TADS

- orthodontic complications

- What is the proper way for patients and hygienists to properly clean braces?

-What role do fluorides play in patients with orthodontic appliances?

-What is the role of smooth surface sealants in an orthodontic patient? How do you clean around fixed retainers?

-What hygiene cautions should be observed with patients wearing removable aligners ?

- What to check at orthodontic hygiene appointments

Hands on training for

- Molar band placement

- Bracket placement

- clear aligner attachments

- scanning

- intraoral and extra oral photographs

- bracket and attachment removal

- lingual retainer placement

- Cleaning orthodontic patients

- OHI for orthodontic patients

This two day course has been specifically designed for dental hygienists and OHTs to answer these questions. It will be an informative and entertaining that will not only increase your knowledge of orthodontic treatment and hygiene considerations but also make you feel more comfortable when dealing with orthodontic patients.


there will be a requirement for pre reading and webinars before the course once these materials have been accessed not refund is possible . Webinars and pre reading will be released in January

.Cheryl Dey

Advanced Diploma of Oral Health (Dental Hygiene)

Cheryl graduated from the Advanced Diploma of Oral Health at Gilles Plains, TAFE SA, in 2006, receiving an award for excellence from the Australian Dental Association and delivering the graduate speech. After graduation Cheryl worked in general practices in Adelaide and then Sydney, before returning to Adelaide to join a specialist orthodontic practice in 2011.


Becoming a member of the Dental Hygienists Association of Australia upon graduation, Cheryl has been involved in various DHAA committees. In 2007 she became involved in the DHAA SA executive, taking the role of State Treasurer from 2007 to 2009. In 2013 she joined the DHAA National Council in the role of National Treasurer. She has served on the DHAA Board of Directors since the Association restructure in 2015 and has held the office of National President since 2018.


Cheryl has been one of the representatives for Australia on the International Federation of Dental Hygiene’s House of Delegates since 2019 and is chair of the IFDH Infrastructure Committee.


Over the past 10 years Cheryl has honed her skill as an orthodontic hygienist through her work in one of the leading orthodontic practices in Australia, working at clinics in Adelaide and Melbourne. She has attended specific orthodontic training around Australia and abroad and is passionate about helping change people’s lives by changing their smiles.


Tabitha Acret

Tabitha Acret is a dedicated and passionate award-winning Dental Hygienist. She studied a Bachelor or Oral Health at Newcastle University after working as a Dental Nurse and Practice Manager for 10 years and graduated in 2008. Since qualifying, Tabitha has become one of the most sought-after Hygienists and Educators in Australia and internationally with a fast-growing and loyal customer base of patients, dental professionals and media.

Tabitha was previously the National Vice-President for the Dental Hygienists Association of Australia and has volunteered in many roles since graduation for the Association. She also has a passion for educating with students, working as a Clinical Educator at Sydney University and currently works as a Clinical Educator for implant maintenance and non-surgical periodontal therapy. She lectures and writes regularly for both industry and consumer press on motivating patients, implant maintenance and disease prevention and periodontal therapy. Winner of the 2018 Leadership Award in Dental Hygiene and the 2019 Award for Clinical Excellence, Tabitha had dedicated her professional life to continued learning and sharing her passion with the dental community.

Outside of her busy work life of lecturing and working clinically in private practice Tabitha enjoys volunteering both locally and internationally to raise awareness to change the way oral health care is delivered to patients.


Cancellation policy

To ensure our workshop prices remain accessible for all, Level UP Preventative care has a fair and equitable cancellation policy that applies to all workshop registrations.

Registration confirmation – Registrations will not be confirmed until full payment is received.

Cancellations (Outside 40 days) – Should you cancel your training commitment more than (40 days) prior to the training date, you will be permitted to choose one of the following options:

Reschedule your training to the next available, mutually convenient workshop;

Transfer your registration to a colleague to attend in your absence; or

Request a refund. If the online learning platform has been accessed then a full refund minus $500 will be provided

Cancellations (Inside 40 days) – Should you cancel your training commitment within the 40 days prior to the training date, no refund or transfer to another workshop date will be permitted, and you will forfeit the cost of the workshop. You are however permitted to substitute a colleague for your reservation, to attend in your absence. Level UP Preventative care will not be held liable for an attendees’ failure to cancel a booking within the specified timeframes.

Cancellations by Level UP preventative Care – While every effort is made to ensure workshops are offered as advertised, there may be instances where courses need to be rescheduled. Level UP preventative care reserves the right to cancel or reschedule a workshop at its discretion. Where Level UP preventative care must cancel a workshop, participants will be offered to reschedule their workshop to the next suitable session or a full refund . Level UP preventative care will not be held liable for any costs incurred from changing to a different date.

Once prereading and or webinars have been accessed no refund is possible.
