About this Event

Navigating health insurance can be overwhelming, especially during or after a cancer diagnosis. And hearing that your health insurance might not cover your treatment can be upsetting and confusing. This session is designed to help patients better understand health insurance appeals and denials.

  • What Happens After Your Doctor Prescribed a Treatment: Provides a brief overview to help patients understand how health insurance companies review and approve prescriptions
  • Why Denials Happen: Shows statistics about denials and provides common reasons for denials so patients know what it means to get a denial from their health insurance company
  • What to Do if You Get a Denial: Educates patients on appeals so they understand their role and rights in the process of getting their prescribed treatment
  • What Happens if You Get Another Denial: Provides tips and resources to patients so they know their options after receiving additional denials

Intended Audience:
Patients, caregivers, practice managers/administrators, health care professionals (HCPs) and other appropriate practice staff/hospital staff, health system staff and national and local advocacy groups.
