Understanding Gangs in Edmonton: Gang Trends & Community Capacity Building

The City of Edmonton, in partnership with Safer Schools Together present Understanding Gangs in Edmonton: Gang Trends & Community Capacity Building.

This comprehensive training, intended for professionals working with young people, is designed as a multi-tiered approach in response to youth gangs in your community. The training will provide a foundational overview of the current gang landscape in Edmonton, trends impacting youth, the knowledge to identify gang-associated behaviours and prevention strategies through a community-focused approach.

The session will include:

• Updates on regional & provincial gang-associated trends

• Modern-day recruiting techniques, including social media platforms

• Identification techniques for negative peer groups/gangs

• Identifying if an individual is on the pathway to engage in gang associated behaviour

• Evidence informed prevention strategies and data informed intervention strategies

• Building community capacity through collaborative inventory of supports and services within your community

• Developing a strategic community response plan to gang associated behaviour

• Case study application to understand effective prevention and intervention methods
