Understanding Breast Cancer Together: A Patient Forum
About this Event
Welcome to "Understanding breast cancer together: a patient forum".
Oxford Cancer and the Cancer Epidemiology Unit at Oxford Population Health are excited to announce a new one-day event designed for people who have been diagnosed and live with breast cancer. We aim to bring together people who have had breast cancer, researchers, clinicians and representatives of the cancer charities. Our goal is to share trusted, evidence-based information and create a space for meaningful conversations.
Invited speakers include Dr Tasha Gandamihardja (consultant breast surgeon and social media influencer), Professor Gillian Reeves (Director of the Cancer Epidemiology Unit at Oxford) and Dr Rajiv Dave (consultant breast surgeon).

What is planned for the day?
The day will feature expert presentations, interactive discussions, and plenty of networking opportunities.
Session 1: Social media, misinformation, and disinformation
In this session we will hear from experts in the field about the use of social media for patients with breast cancer, what is trustworthy information, and what the impact of misinformation can be.
Interactive breakout discussions on social media and breast cancer
The breakout discussions provide an opportunity for all attendees to learn from one another, share perspectives, and explore how social media can better support people affected by breast cancer. Together, we will explore what works well, what challenges remain, and how we can improve the ways in which reliable breast cancer information is communicated and accessed online.
Session 2: Understanding breast cancer research
During this session, we will hear from researchers and patients involved in research about different types of research studies, why they matter, and the importance of patient involvement.

Who should attend?
This forum is specifically designed for breast cancer patients. However, there will be limited spaces available for other members of the public who are interested in attending.
We want to hear from diverse voices and welcome attendees from all communities, particularly those from ethnic minority backgrounds. Unfortunately, given the nature of the topics being discussed, only adults over the age of 18 may take part.
Refreshments and lunch will be provided. We are also pleased to be able to offer to breast cancer patients a £50 fee for attending the event but cannot cover any other expenses.
Please note that parking is limited in Oxford and so we advise public transport wherever possible. However, limited parking spaces can be made available for on request for those with specific access needs. Email [email protected] for more information.
The forum is free to attend but spaces are limited, so register today!
