Understanding and addressing vulnerability and risk within the region

Hosting the event locally and maintaining a local focus represents a crucial opportunity to address significant social issues affecting Cumbria. 

Cumbria, while known for its picturesque landscapes and vibrant communities, faces significant challenges related to vulnerable groups and emerging risks. These include youth issues, from novel crime risks to issues of access, problems related to rurality and stigmatisation for people living with HIV and victims of domestic violence, as well as deaths of despair. Recent studies and reports highlight disparities in support and services for these groups, necessitating a concerted effort to bring these issues to the forefront and influence local policymaking.  

This event aims to provide a platform for academics and stakeholders to engage collaboratively on these pressing issues and take steps to develop actionable strategies to mitigate risks and enhance support systems.
